The Carpathians: A wild and foreboding region
where wolves still howl at the winter moon, where semi-wild dogs
and men ceaselessly protect their flocks from the marauding bear
and stealthy lynx, and where bandits silently prowl under the shadow
of the dark forest canopy.
This
is the land of Countess Bathory, The Bloody Countess, who bathed
in the blood of countless virgins to remain forever young. This
is also the home of Count Dracula, a.k.a. Vlad Draco, a.k.a. Vlad
the Impaler, made infamous through all time for dispensing justice
from his castle walls by casting lawbreakers alive upon sharpened
stakes embedded in the earth below.
This is a land where your knife is your best friend,
your most versatile tool, your main hope of survival. From such
needs during the centuries past evolved a knife design of amazing
versatility: The Vlad©1. Here are just some of the unique highlights
of this custom knife’s design:
 |
An oversized curved body with indentations
for the fingers makes the knife instantly settle in the hand
and assures a secure grip even with half frozen or blood soaked
fingers. |
 |
The heavy solid brass bolster acts as the
quillion for protecting fingers. Additionally, its extra weight
and unique shape is designed to act as a hammer, stun fish or
game and (in less civilized times) to crush skulls. |
 |
To counterbalance the heavy bolster at the
blade end, the bolster, or cap, at the other end, is oversized.
This feature result in a finely balanced knife that can be used
for hours without fatigue. |
 |
The curved and tapered blade, culminating
in an upswept point, makes for an unusually versatile blade
design. It is equally at home for splicing rope, cutting the
cord on newborn sheep, dressing game, whittling a walking stick
(or bludgeon), defending against attackers and was ideal(in
the bad old days) for silently slitting throats. |
 |
An oversized stainless spring holds the blade
securely open even when the blade is under heavy stress. |
 |
The handle is polished horn from Hungarian
longhorn cattle. Each handle is totally unique in its richness
of grain and color. |
 |
The Vlad© comes in a solid cherry wood presentation
case. An optional engraved brass plaque provides the opportunity
to make this a once in a lifetime personalized gift. |
 |
An optional leather case made of American
belting leather with riveted belt loop and reinforced cover
means you can always have your Vlad “at your side”, ready for
action. Just like in the old days! |
